The 11th week of pregnancy is an especially exciting time because the baby's sex usually becomes apparent during this time. The first trimester is almost over, along with the worst of the nausea.

Pregnancy at 11 Weeks

Size

From now until the 20th week, the baby's weight will increase 30 times and its length will triple. The baby now measures about 2 inches from the top of the head to the rump.

Features

To ensure the baby gets plenty of nutrients, the blood vessels in the placenta are getting larger and multiplying. The baby's ears are starting to move up and to the side of the head.

New Fetus

As of the 11th week, the baby is officially referred to as a fetus.

Identification

By end of the 11th week, the baby's external genitalia develops and a penis or clitoris is recognizable.

Considerations

First trimester screening, a prenatal test to determine the likelihood that the baby has Down syndrome or Edwards syndrome, is typically performed between the 11th and 14th weeks.
