There are several reasons why airports are scarey, dangerous and thrilling at the same time.

Most runways are ample for the aircraft using the designated runways, yet still remain an adventure for pilots, crew and passengers if aboard a plane in these places around the globe.

This Toncontin International Airport in Honduras is considered the second most dangerous airport in the world. It is a civil and military airport serving Tegucigalpa, Honduras. The points that make this a very scarey airport are numerous traits.

For years, before the mountain was removed, it was in close proximity to irregular mountainous terrain. The very short runway added to the most difficult landings and take off of the aircraft.

Many changes to make the difficult approach more safe and slightly easier have improved it a bit. This single asphalt runway rests on an elevation of 3,297 feet. It is one of the country’s four major airports servicing Honduras.

Originally the land was home of an amusement park, so perhaps the aircraft gets ideas of thrills when they come to New York. Infamous runway at Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport, Saba, Netherlands Antilles is one of the shortest commercial airport runways in the world. The location is also unusual because the tarmac sits on land that is at the edge of a cliff.

To view the airport from any height the water engulfs the land on three sides as well with mountainous terrain close by making a drop down landing a thrill to pilots and crew. Located on the Caribbean island of Saba,it is the only airport on that island. Considered to be the most risky place to land,it holds an A1 rating for safety. Twin Otter and BN-2 Islander are common aircraft using Jauncho E. Yrausquin Airport in Saba, Netherlands Antilles.

Danger with a capital “D” signifies one of the most dangerous airports in Europe. Courchevel Airport in the French Alps not only has the mountains to contend with, but the thin air with the altitude at which the airport rests being 6,588 feet too.

Needless to say there is not much flat surface to land a plane. Adding to the fact that snow and ice is practically visible year round. The short runway of 1,722 feet add to the skill needed to successfully land and take off from this French airport. Courchevel Airport is considered one of the world’s most dangerous in the world.
