Parents Without Partners

Parents Without Partners is a volunteer-run group for single parents and grandparents. Regardless of their custody status, unmarried persons from all walks of life, aged 18 to 80, are welcome. According to the group’s site, “membership can transform a difficult time of adjustment into an exciting turning point in your life.”

Besides coordinating opportunities for single parents to socialize, the group has a balanced offering of educational activities on single parenting and family activities where single parents can bring their kids.

Activities include community service, pot luck dinners, sporting and recreational events and holiday events. A membership application must be submitted with a donation of at least $5 up to $100 (as of April 2010). Single status is verified in the application process.

YAP Club

YAP, short for Young Active Professionals, is a nationwide network of social clubs founded in Dallas, Texas, in 2003. The Columbus chapter welcomes members in their 20s through 40s to join the free online social group.

Though the club does not exclude couples, the primary membership consists of singles aged 21-45. On the site, members can create a profile, interact with other members, view events and weekend trips, and review area events and attractions.

Membership in the group is free. Outings, like dinners, dancing, festivals and sporting events, are planned by volunteer member organizers who coordinate a meeting point, and many times there is a group discount.
