Places to Ride ATVs in Maryland

Sometimes called “America in Miniature,” Maryland has more than 10,000 square miles of varied terrain to explore. Most of the state’s all-terrain vehicle trails lie within state forests in the west, where the Appalachian mountains roll through the state.

You’ll also find places to ride in metropolitan areas in privately owned motor sports parks.

 

 

State Forest Trail Systems

Several trail systems in the northwestern corner of the state provide trails suitable for novices through advanced riders. The trails wind through state forest and require a Maryland off-road vehicle sticker to ride.

The Piney Mountain Trail System is novice-friendly, with 2 miles of gravel road winding through hardwood forest. The Poplar Lick Trail System at Grantsville has campsites along 6 miles of trail that wind along a river. Expect damp trails and several stream crossings.

The Potomac River Trail System has 7 miles of logging roads winding through the forest along the Potomac River. Purchase a trail permit from the Potomac State Forest before heading out on the trail.

 

Wolf Den Hunting and Riding Club

The Wolf Den Hunting and Riding Club in Kitzmiller has more than 3,000 acres of ATV trails in the southwestern part of the state. Pit your skill against steep hill climbs and mud pits, or take a leisurely ride with views of the Potomac River valley.

Spend the weekend camping at a primitive site along the trail and cooling off in one of a couple of swimming holes found on site. Yearly memberships and daily passes are available.

 

Wicomico Motorsports Park

The Wicomico Motorsports Park spans 300 acres along the Wicomico River in the southern part of the state. An ATV trail winds through dense woods and you’ll also see a 10-acre motocross track and a kids fun track.

You’ll find small jumps and steep hills to challenge you along the non-rated trails. Pitch a tent at a primitive campsite on the park grounds, or pull your RV in and hook up to electricity for a nominal fee. The park remains open on weekends year-round.

 

The Landing MX Park

The Landing MX Park in Easton has multiple tracks open to ATVs and dirt bikes. The Pee-Wee Track has tabletops and bumps suitable for young novices, while the Advanced Pee-Wee track contains more technical features and a pit.

Adult beginners can use a track with step-ups, tabletops and other features to gain the technical skills needed for more advanced tracks. The park is open weekends and charges a per-person entry fee as well as a riding fee.
