Top 5 Places to Stay In Michigan

Michigan is a beautiful state to live in, visit, and explore. Michigan has many amazing attractions from museums, to zoos, to National Parks, to beaches, to art galleries to local restaurants, etc. etc. Michigan is also filled with a plethora of wonderful lodging choices; from hotels, to motels, to inns, to cabins, to resorts – there are lodging accommodations to fit everyone’s needs!

Whether you’re a Michigan resident going on a trip in your own beautiful home state or you are a student or a tourist exploring this lovely state for the first (or second or tenth or hundredth) time, or you’re a friend or family member coming back to the Mitten to visit, here are the top five places to stay in Michigan.

1 1. The Grand Hotel

1. The Grand Hotel

Located on magical Mackinac Island, The Grand Hotel is an amazing sight to be seen! The glorious front porch, the overwhelming beauty of the lilacs in Spring, the lavish beauty of the eclectic, colorful, ornate decor, it is breathtaking.

Plus, the beautiful, romantic movie “Somewhere in Time” starring Christopher Reeve, Jane Seymour, and Christopher Plummer was filmed there, which adds to the romance of the whole place. The Grand Hotel – for its stunning beauty, its charm, its history, and its amazing location on Mackinac Island – is definitely one of the top five places to stay in Michigan.

2 2. Laurium Manor Inn

2. Laurium Manor Inn

The Laurium Manor Inn actually includes multiple restored historic houses and buildings in Laurium, Michigan. The two big ones are the Laurium Inn and Victorian Hall – they are beautiful, historic houses that feel like home when you are in them.

Trust me, I know! The first time I stayed at the Laurium Manor Inn, I stayed in Victorian Hall. It was lovely. Not only were the houses amazing to wander through and stay in, the surrounding area was wonderful to explore, and the people who own/run the Laurium Manor Inn are incredibly nice and hospitable people.

When they found out I had a gluten intolerance, they went out of their way and made an amazing gluten-free breakfast for ALL the guests! I don’t think anyone would have guessed it was gluten-free though. It was delicious, and it tasted extra good because I knew it came from the heart. I would recommend the Laurium Manor Inn to anyone! It is most assuredly one of the top five places to stay in Michigan.

3 3. The Homestead

3. The Homestead

The Homestead, also known as “America’s Freshwater Resort,” is an amazing place to stay. Located in Glen Arbor, Michigan (and VERY close to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore) The Homestead offers so much for its visitors.

There are amazing views of the lake, beaches, swimming pools, incredible restaurants, a relaxing spa, workout facilities, health and fitness classes, golf courses, skiing in the winter, and so much more! Plus, on a personal note, it is one of the most relaxing places I have ever been in my life! I absolutely loved it there.

I also got some of the best sunset pictures I’ve ever taken (from the balcony of my condo. Ooh la la!) It was amazing! I would definitely recommend The Homestead, and there is no doubt in my mind that it belongs on this top five list.

4 4. Bavarian Inn Lodge

4. Bavarian Inn Lodge

The Bavarian Inn Lodge is located in Frankenmuth, Michigan. The first big reason that it is awesome to stay at the Bavarian Inn Lodge actually has NOTHING to do with the Bavarian Inn Lodge… it has to do with Frankenmuth. Frankenmuth, “Michigan’s Little Bavaria” is an incredibly fun place to be!

From the Bavarian Inn Restaurant (part of the Lodge actually) to Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland, to The Cheese Haus, to The Enchanted Forest, to museums, malls, horse drawn carriages and more, Frankenmuth is AWESOME! Staying anywhere in Frankenmuth is almost a guarantee for a great trip. But The Bavarian Inn Lodge makes this list, because it is something special.

First of all, it has the restaurant; the amazing restaurant where you can get delicious family style chicken dinners with about a million courses (and gluten-free options!). Then of course there is the Lodge itself, with its great rooms, fantastic service, and did I mention an indoor miniature golf course and multiple pools and water slides? Yeah, the Bavarian Inn Lodge is stellar, and most assuredly earns a spot on the list of the top five places to stay in Michigan.

5 5. The Inn on Ferry Street

5. The Inn on Ferry Street

Located in Detroit, Michigan, The Inn on Ferry Street is a true gem in the heart of the big city. Much like the Laurium Manor Inn, The Inn on Ferry Street is not simply one building, but multiple building – four beautifully restored Victorian mansions and two carriage houses.

The feeling and mood of the accommodations at The Inn on Ferry Street is one of relaxation and contentment; there is a fine mix of bed and breakfast simplicity and comfort and big hotel convenience and efficiency. Being here is like taking a break from the world, even in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Detroit. The Inn on Ferry Street may be last on this list, but it is not the least deserving to be on it! It is a wonderful place to stay and is definitely one of the top five places to stay in Michigan!
