How to Stock a Changing Table

Your changing table will be a hot spot where lots of action occurs as you care for your baby. From diaper changes to bathing to clothing changes, you and your little one will make pit stops here regularly during the day and night. To prepare you for any situation, stock your changing table with all the supplies and items you may need for your infant.

8 Steps to Stock a Changing Table

1. Use a basket or a drawer to hold diapers for your baby.

If you use cloth diapers, your little one will use between eight and 12 diapers per day, a cloth diapering manufacturer. Purchase at least 24 diapers to enable you to go about three days between laundering diapers. Purchase at least six diaper covers for the cloth diapers as well. If you use disposal diapers, expect that your baby will use about 10 diapers per day.

2. Buy one or two tubs of baby wipes for cleaning your baby at diaper changes.

You might store one at the changing table and a backup tub in another location to have on hand as needed.

3. Fill a small basket or container with personal care products including diaper rash ointment, baby lotion, cotton balls, nail clippers, a thermometer and a baby comb or brush.

4. Fold and tuck away baby clothes in baskets or drawers of the changing table.

Add six undershirts, three to six pairs of socks, two pajamas, four separate shirt and pants outfits, four one-piece outfits and one or two dressy outfits, suggests the Allina Hospital and Clinics.

5. Stock the changing table with linens necessary for baby care and washing.

Fold and stow away four burp cloths, two heavy blankets, three receiving blankets, two washcloths, two towels and two pads for the changing table.

6. Place a diaper pail near the changing table.

Purchase trash can liners if you use disposable diapers or buy a special fabric diaper pail liner if you use cloth diapers. Place a hamper near the changing table to hold your baby’s dirty clothing.

7. Stow a few pacifiers in a basket at the changing table so you have some extra ones on hand.

8. Keep hand sanitizer at the changing table to enable you to disinfect your hands easily after diaper changes.
